DIRECTV RC73 IR/RF Remote Control

The difference between this remote and the original remote that came with the DirectTV receiver is indistinguishable, according to the reviewer. I don't think you'll be able to program the new remote if your old one is fully dead and you don't have another working remote. The only difficulty I had was that I couldn't identify my specific SONY TV model in the "Select TV" drop-down box. Fortunately, I was familiar with the model immediately below what I had, so I chose that. That was it; the remote controls both the D-TV box and the television, and I have a backup remote on hand "just in case." This remote was purchased to replace a well-used RC73 Genie Mini client remote that had begun to lose some essential functionality. I couldn't get the newremote to "pairing" with the Genie despite carefully following the supplied instructions. The IR/RF feature was found to be the source of the problem. My new remote wanted to speak IR when it arrived, but my Genie expected RF.
